A covering apparatus 14 for a vehicle having a retractable roof and an opening in the vehicle body. The covering apparatus includes a mechanism which extends and retracts the retractable roof through the opening. The covering apparatus configured to move between a covering position and a stowed position (Figures 11, 12) and wherein the covering apparatus 14 comprises a folding mechanism (Figure 10), a primary flap 16 and a secondary flap 18. The primary flap 16 and secondary flap 18 are hinged to one another for being moved automatically between an open condition and a folded condition by the folding mechanism. When the covering apparatus 14 is disposed in the covering position, the primary flap 16 and secondary flap 18 are in the open condition. The folding mechanism is configured to provide a predefined degree of manual travel of the secondary flap 18 with respect to the primary flap 16 when the covering apparatus 14 is in the covering position such that the secondary flap 18 can be moved relative to the primary flap 16. The folding mechanism comprises a biasing device (26a, 26b, Figure 7) for biasing the secondary flap 18 to return to the open position. |
