PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent articles to be protected from breaking and to protect the articles to be protected without applying impact or pressure. SOLUTION: A protecting device includes: a particle-like cushioning material 11; a box-like display part 10 filled with the cushioning material 11; an air inflow mechanism 20 for flowing air into the display part 10 at a minimum fluidization speed or higher which is the minimum speed at which the cushioning material 11 is fluidized while an article 1 to be displayed is placed on an upper face of the cushioning material 11; a receiving part 40 of an earthquake quick announcement for detecting occurrence of an earthquake; and a control part 30 for starting the air flowing from the air flowing mechanism 20 into the display part 10 when the occurrence of the earthquake is detected and for stopping the air from flowing from the air flowing mechanism 20 into the display part 10 after a predetermined period of time.
