The method involves passing a finishing mill (1) through a flat rolling stock (4) in run direction (x), where the hot strip mill has a subordinate of a cooling path (2) to the finishing mill. The energy content of a rolling point (13) is determined in the finishing mill of the flat rolling stock, while arriving the rolling point. The initial values (T1) are assigned to a model (15) for the hot strip mill, where the rolling points are off-track while passing through the finishing mill and the cooling path.
