The needle shaft has a handle 241 at the proximal end which extends in the opposite direction to the curved portion, so that the surgeon can see the orientation of the device. The shaft may have a flattened surface to prevent rotation within the shield. The shield may be rotated away from the needle tip. The shaft may have an inflatable balloon attached.
