A buckle comprises a < shaped resilient member with an apertured clamping member upstanding from one limb- and extending through a slot in the other the belt being passed through the aperture and the clamping member and through three slots provided in the buckle whereby tension applied in one direction to the belt increases the effect of the clamping member on the belt and tension in the other direction releases the clamping member. The buckle comprises a bent strip with slots 15 to 18 and the clamping member 20 extends from the base portion 11 through the slot 15. The belt passes through the slots 16, 17 round the bar 19 through the slots 18, 16 and the slot 21 in the clamping plate which clamps it against the edges of the slot 15. Tension applied to the free end of the belt causes the end of the portion 12 to bend downwardly and to free the belt from the clamping member. The belt may then be shortened. To lengthen the belt, pressure is applied to the end of the portion 12 to allow the belt to move freely through the slot 21 in the opposite direction. |
