New disperse dyestuffs of the anthraquinone series and process for their manufacture

The invention comprises disperse dyestuffs of the anthraquinone series of the formula wherein R represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl, benzyl or benzene residue, X represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylmercapto, arylmercapto, phenyl, acyl, nitro or cyano group and Y represents a halogen atom or an OH, alkoxy, amino or NO2 group. They may be prepared by reacting an anthraquinone of the formula with an alkyl-, cycloalkyl-, aralkyl- or arylisocyanate. The reaction may be carried out in an inert solvent at an elevated temperature. Specified starting anthraquinones include 1,4-diamino-2-alkoxy-anthraquinones. Examples are given for the production of the dyes. They may be used for dyeing hydrophobic fibres such as cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate, polyamides and aromatic polyesters in yellow, pink or red shades, and may be used in conjunction with other dyes.ALSO:Cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate, polyamides and polyester fibres are dyed with ureidoanthraquinones of the formula:- wherein X represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylmercapto, arylmercapto, phenyl, acyl, NO2 or CN group, Y represents a halogen atom or an OH, alkoxy, NH2 or NO2 group and R represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl, benzyl or phenyl residue (see Division C4). The dyes may be applied in a state of fine division in the presence of a dispersing agent. Polyethylene terephthalate fibres may be dyed with the aid of a swelling agent or under super-atmospheric pressure at a temperature above 100 DEG C. The dyes which do not contain phenolic OH groups may be applied by the thermofixation process, and this process may be applied to the dyeing of union fabrics made from polyester fibres and cellulosic fibres, and in this case, the padding liquor may also contain other dyestuffs which are suitable for dyeing cotton, especially vat dyestuffs or reactive dyestuffs and when the latter dyes are used an acid-binding agent may also be added. An example is given in which a polyester fibre is dyed.
