The car has an instrument panel cross-piece comprising a rigid tube (10) transversely extending relative to a longitudinal axis (X) of the car. A part (12a) of a ventilation shaft (12) extends between the rigid tube and a foot plate (14) of the car. The rigid tube comprises a support (13) for supporting a steering column. The cross-piece comprises another rigid tube (11) that extends parallel to the former rigid tube. The ventilation shaft is fixed above the two rigid tubes, where the part of the ventilation shaft is sufficiently rigid to withstand a part of efforts exerted on the cross-piece. The part of the ventilation shaft comprises plastic reinforced fibers.
