PURPOSE: A coding and decoding method through adaptive bit depth reduction and a device thereof are provided to adaptively select and perform reduction of bit depth as a slide or a macro block unit, thereby preventing coding of a video with excessive bit depth. CONSTITUTION: When bit depth is reduced, a coding device reduces bit depth of an input signal(S510,S520). When the bit depth is not reduced, the coding device quantizes the input signal without reducing the bit depth of the input signal(S550). The coding device quantizes the input signal(S530). The coding device increases the bit depth of the input signal(S540).
