This highly reliable box packing device drops and moves a cardboard box that is open in the lateral direction thereof, wherein said box packing device drops said cardboard box without causing damage, and suitably maintains the orientation of the cardboard box after the box has dropped. The box packing device comprises a dropping unit (20) that drops a cardboard box (C) that is open in the lateral direction thereof in a state in which the lateral flaps (C21, C23) of said cardboard box are open. The dropping unit (20) has an upper guide mechanism (21) and a lower guide mechanism (30). The upper guide mechanism (21) includes first upper guide sections (22, 23) that face the front surfaces (C21a, C23a) of the flaps, and second upper guide sections (24, 25) that face the back surfaces (C21b, C23b) of the flaps. The lower guide mechanism (30) includes a first lower movable guide section (31) and a first lower fixed guide section (32) (said sections (31) and (32) constituting first lower guide sections) that face the front surfaces of the flaps, second lower guide sections (33, 34) that face the back surfaces of the flaps, and a first drive unit that drives so as to bring the second lower guide sections near to the first lower guide sections. |
