The length variable support unit has a locking unit for setting to a predetermined length based on a clamping force, where the clamping force increases with the increasing of vertical load. A biasing unit is provided for biasing the locking unit for the purposes of clamping. A releasing unit is provided for releasing the locking. A limiting device is provided for limiting the adjustment of the transmission for converting the vertical load in the clamping force. An independent claim is included for rails for camera webs.
