PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent displacement of a chord part of chain in a chain-type continuously variable transmission.SOLUTION: Neighboring chain elements 44-2 and 44-3 transmit tensile force T by contacting a pin 42a-2 and a pin 42b-3. When chain 16 bends from a line state, a point of contact shifts from a point C1 to a point C2. As to the chain element 44-2, a position that the tensile force T, -T of both ends effect drags and couple of force acts. A rear end of the chain element 44-2 shifts to lift by the couple of force. An increase ratio for a relative angle of neighboring chain elements of the move amount is suppressed to little when the relative angle is narrow, and raised when the relative angle grows wide.
