[Also in Division C3] A composition containing gelatine, which may be a photographic gelatine silver halide emulsion, is hardened by incorporating a diacyloxy compound of one of the formulae:- CH 3 COOCH = CH-CH = CHOCOCH 3 or CH 3 COOCH = CHCH 2 CH = CHOCOCH 3 in which R is an alkyl group having up to four carbon atoms and n is O or an integer up to 5. Diacyloxy compounds specified are mixed 1:1:2:2- diacetoxy-diethoxyethane isomers, mixed 1:1:3:3- diacetoxy diethoxypropane isomers, mixed 1:1:2:2- diacetoxy dimethoxy-ethane isomers, 2:5-diacetoxy- 2:5-dihydrofuran and 2:3-diacetoxy-1:4-dioxan. |
