The system comprises a thermal imaging camera (40a) for detecting the temperature of a portion (56a) of the interior space (34) of motor vehicle, accommodating the occupants, in which the air-conditioning device is operated in dependence on the detected temperature. The air supplied to the interior space is discharged out through an air leaking out element (36). The air leaking out element has a movable guide element (38) for directing the air, and a guide element (58) which is coupled to an actuator. The guide element is movable in dependence on the detected temperature. An independent claim is included for a method for operating air-conditioning system for controlling temperature of interior space of motor vehicle.
