1,084,658. Freight containers. W. R. GRACE & CO. Dec. 15, 1965 [Feb. 1, 1965]. No. 53293/65. Heading B8P. A freight container for moist green coffee beans &c. comprises an outer shell or case 10 having secured to but spaced from its walls inner wall panels 20, 21 which are perforated to allow the free flow of air, upwardly-converging and waterproof ceiling panels (31, 32), Figs. 2, 2A (not shown), extending over the tops of the inner wall panels so that condensation on the top wall 12, Fig. 1, of the case drains down through the spaces between the inner and outer walls and then out of the case through drain holes 24. The ceiling panels (31, 32), Fig. 2A (not shown), overlap at their uppermost point with a gap (33) between them to facilitate air circulation through the beans &c.,. and are secured to the top wall 12 of the case-by moulded inclined strips (29, 30) and roof bows (28). Alternatively, instead of overlapping, the ceiling panels (46, 47), Fig. 3 (not shown), may be separated by a gap (41), an inverted gutter (42) carried on the top wall of the case preventing condensate dripping back into the beans &c. Longitudinal slots (61), Fig. 5 (not shown), may be provided at the eaves between the inner walls (20) &c. and ceiling panels (63). The ceiling panels (31) &c. may be made from plywood clad upon its upper surface with aluminium, and constructed as a heat insulator with a layer of foam &c. The inner wall panels 20, 21 &c. may also be made from plywood &c., constructed as a heat insulating laminate with a layer of foam &c. Hinged doors 16, 17 with perforated inner wall panels 25 are provided at one end of the case, and may be secured by a latch 19. The doors 16, 17 are sealed round their edges by hard rubber gaskets. The case may be provided with elements (not further described) permitting it to be stacked on another like case, and with elements (also not further described) facilitating- its handling by slings, hooks &c.
