The present invention relates to a scale converting apparatus of a 3D image and a method thereof capable of: properly adjusting depth information according to the resolution of the 3D image which is to be converted when converting the resolution or scale of the 3D image; maximizing a three-dimensional effect as an original 3D image by automatically controlling the resolution and depth information of the 3D image when viewing the 3D image in a 3D display device which has a different screen size or resolution; automatically adjusting not only a physical image size but also the value of information regarding the 3D effect to be suitable for the resolution of the 3D image which is to be displayed when converting the scale of the 3D image; and improving user convenience by automatically finding and converting information regarding the 3D effect which enables a proper three-dimensional effect in the selected display device, from a database if a user selects a desired 3D display device.
