PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately notify a user of the most likely cause of inconsistency between the sizes of sheets, and a method of dealing with the cause, so as to reduce the likelihood of the recurrence of the similar defects.SOLUTION: With a length in a paper feeding direction of set sheets set in a machine assumed as A, and a length detected by sheet length detection means for detecting a length in a conveyance direction of a sheet actually conveyed in the machine for image formation assumed as B, both lengths are compared by a control unit 102 of the machine. When |A-B| is smaller than a predetermined value, the machine determines that the size of the set sheets is appropriate, and performs image formation; and when |A-B| is larger than the predetermined value, determines that the size of the set sheets is inappropriate, and notifies a user of the inappropriateness, and at the same time, notifies a user of a method of removing the inappropriateness. The removing method is selected from a plurality of options in order from highest probability depending on the magnitude relationship between A and B, a form of feeding of the set sheets, and as to whether the length A is input manually or automatically. |
