PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine including a drainage pump capable of preventing an air entrainment.SOLUTION: The washing machine includes: a washing and dewatering tub 22 for housing laundry; a water receiving tub 21 for rotatably enclosing a washing and dewatering tub 22; a drive motor 25 for rotating the washing and dewatering tub 22; a drainage pump 31 for sucking water in the water receiving tub 21 and draining the water to the outside of the machine; control means 34 for controlling the drive motor 25 and the drainage pump 31 and successively controlling a series of washing, rinsing and dewatering processes. The drainage pump 31 has a rotation runner that is normally and reversely rotatable. The control means 34 drives the drainage pump 31 in a normal rotation direction during a drainage operation and a dewatering operation to drain water in the water receiving tub 21 and then drives the drainage pump 31 in a reverse direction for a prescribed time before stopping it. Thus, it is possible to surely fill the inside of the drainage pump 31 and peripheral paths with washing water when finishing draining and dewatering operations in each process, and is possible to prevent an air entrainment of the drainage pump. |
