The purpose of the present invention is to perform measures, with respect to object recognition in which image information is used, to reduce erroneous determination in cases when there is a high degree of similarity between the visual characteristics of an object image and the visual characteristics of dictionary data for a separate object due to deterioration with age. Provided is a computer dictionary update method for updating dictionary data in which visual characteristics of an object that a user wishes to be subjected to recognition are registered. In said dictionary update method, in cases when a plurality of pieces of data are present which have visual characteristics similar to an inputted query image, visual characteristics of a plurality of objects are set as being similar, and object pairs are stored in a similar-object storage unit, and when an object stored in the similar-object storage unit satisfies a predetermined condition, data having the visual characteristics of the object satisfying the condition is set as being required to be updated, and an update recommendation is transmitted to the user who registered the object. |
