PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving an electrophoretic display unit that causes no deterioration in local contrast ratios while providing a DC balance and that is capable of performing multi-gradation display.SOLUTION: A method for driving an electrophoretic display unit performs in a partial drive system: a first image display step S2 for displaying a first image for each area, in which a first color or an intermediate color constituting the first image is displayed, based on a gradation difference between it and a second color; a first image erasing step S4 for making all the pixels of a display part into the first color for each area that is a background of the first image and for each area in which the first image is constituted and the intermediate color is displayed, based on a gradation difference between its display color and the first color; a second image display step S6 for displaying a second image for each area that is a background of the second image and for each area in which the intermediate color constituting the second image should be displayed, based on a gradation difference between it and the first color; and a second image erasing step S8 for making all the pixels of the display part into the second color for each area, in which the first color or the intermediate color constituting the second image is displayed, based on a gradation difference between it and the second color. |
