The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising carvedilol and tartaric acid, and a controlled release pharmaceutical formulation. The controlled release pharmaceutical formulation of the present invention produced by using the pharmaceutical composition displays excellent carvedilol solubility and stability even in a high pH range; has an excellent bioavailability throughout the entire region of a gastro-intestinal tract; has a minimized drug absorption deviation; and is thereby capable of being usefully applied to a treatment of high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and angina.
