A structured document management device according to an embodiment analyzes a hierarchical condition included in an input query and a predicate condition for each element in a structured document, the element being specified in the hierarchical condition, and extracts a constraint condition for a variable that stores the element and a dependence relationship between variables. In the present method, when the constraint condition is extracted, a constraint condition related to the structure is acquired in a way in which the constraint condition is relieved to include not only the elements to which the condition is originally applied but also other elements. The predicate is moved so as to apply the relieved constraint condition as early as possible, and then, a predicate condition that complements the relieved condition is inserted.
