An embodiment of the present invention provides a gas stove and a method for operating the same. The gas stove comprises: a main body part; each of heating burners provided on the main body part to heat a seated cooking container; a wall part protruding to an upper side of the main body part; each of sensor parts provided on the wall part, and having a distance sensor sensing a distance distal from the cooking container and an object recognition sensor sensing the existence of the cooking container by transmitting a signal at a predetermined angle; a main valve provided on a gas pipe supplying gas to the heating burners, and controlling the opening and shutting of the gas pipe; and a control unit controlling the operation of the main valve and the heating burners according to whether or not of the sensing of the sensor parts. |
