PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-shrinkable polyester film suitable for book packaging.SOLUTION: A heat-shrinkable polyester film for book packaging is formed by a polyester resin mainly containing ethylene terephthalate and of which sum total of one or more kind of monomer components which can be an amorphous component in total monomer components is 16 mol% to 27 mol%, and satisfies following requirements (1) to (4). (1) A maximum heat-shrinking stress in a main shrinkage direction measured in hot air at 90°C is 1 MPa to 6 MPa. (2) A heat shrinkage rate in the main shrinkage direction is 15% to 50% when treated in a warm water at 70°C for 10 seconds. (3) Elmendorf tear transmission strengths in the main shrinkage direction and in an orthogonal direction with the main shrinkage direction are both 300 mN or less. (4) One and more kinds of characters, patterns and marks are printed.
