In order to extract the silhouette information of an object shape by dividing a general image, an image processing system divides, from the image, the area of an object or shape included in the image. The image processing system comprises: an initial core selection unit that selects, as an initial core, out of the constituent elements constituting the image, one or more elements that are starting points to start a calculation necessary for locating the area; a peripheral element representation unit that compares each of the constituent elements with peripheral elements around that constituent element, thereby characterizing the peripheral elements as peripheral element representations; and a set generation unit that compares the characteristics of the initial core constituting the area or of the constituent elements of the area with the peripheral element representations of the peripheral elements, thereby determining whether the peripheral elements belong to the same area as the initial core, thereby generating a set of constituent elements constituting the area, thereby dividing the area from the image. |
