The present invention addresses the problem of suppressing increase in the concentration of a gas that is dissolved in an ink. An ink retention device (10) of the present invention as a solution for the problem is an ink retention device which is mounted on a carriage that is provided with an inkjet head that ejects an ink onto a recording medium. This ink retention device (10) is provided with an ink retention chamber (1) for internally retaining the ink, a reduced-pressure chamber (2) in which the pressure is reduced, and a gas permeable member (3) which allows permeation of a gas, while not allowing permeation of the ink. The ink retention chamber (1) and the reduced-pressure chamber (2) are adjacent to each other, with the gas permeable member (3) interposed therebetween.
