The arrangement (1) has battery units (2, 3) i.e. lead-acid-batteries, connected in series, and a power supply (4) for charging the arrangement. A circuit arrangement (10) increases charging voltage of one of the battery units and has controllable switching elements (11, 12) e.g. MOSFETs or relays, for switching bypasses (13, 14) during application of voltage to the battery arrangement. The circuit arrangement has a direct current converter, where an output of the converter is connected with an input of the battery unit. A monitoring device (16) monitors charging current of the battery units. An independent claim is also included for a method for charging a battery arrangement.
