The purpose of the present invention is to provide a high-wattage ceramic metal halide lamp that maintains high luminous efficiency. This high-wattage ceramic metal halide lamp is equipped with an arc tube in which at least mercury and a metal halide are encapsulated. The arc tube has a thick tube section and a pair of thin tube sections that are formed on either end of the thick tube section, and a current-introducing body is run inside each thin tube section. The outer diameter (L4) of the current-introducing body relative to the inner diameter (L6) of the thin tube section is in the range of 0.96≤L14/L6≤0.98. The area between the thin tube section and the current-introducing body is divided into a sealed area and a non-sealed area, and an air gap (GA) formed in the non-sealed area is in the range of 5.0mm3≤GA≤17.5mm3.
