A half bearing shell 1 is formed with a locking tab 3, for co-operation with a recess 5 in a bearing cap 4, by passing a blank 11 between rolls 12 and 13. The blank is reduced slightly between the rolls, a knife 15 on roll 12 displacing the tab 3 from the trailing end of the blank into a recess in the roll 13. An abutment 14 (or a radially retractable claw) on the roll 12 locates the blank, a second recess then being provided in the roll 13. |
