Disclosed are a system for reducing a waiting time for payment in a major supermarket and a method for operating the same. The system for reducing a waiting time for payment in a major supermarket according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a payment waiting request unit for collecting intrinsic identification information of a client who wants to wait for payment and the request time to receive a payment waiting request; a client information management unit for storing client information including the intrinsic identification information and a phone number to be provided if necessary; a waiting client management unit for combining a payment waiting request receipt result received through the payment waiting request unit with the client information provided by the client information management unit and generating a payment waiting client list to be managed; an exclusive counter for exclusively dealing with the payment of the client who requests the payment waiting; and a call unit for sending a call signal to the corresponding client′s mobile terminal according to the proceeding status at the exclusive counter and the order in the payment waiting client list.
