PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an olefin polymerization catalyst which can maintain the granular shape of a granule even in a treatment with an aqueous solution of an acid and salts, which cannot be applied conventionally due to swellability of the smectite, and has a practicable performance as an olefin polymerization catalyst. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of an olefin polymerization catalyst is obtained by bringing into contact with a component [A] obtained by subjecting the granule of smectite to a heating step at a specified temperature before the granule of smectite is treated with an aqueous solution in which an inorganic compound is dissolved, a component [B] composed of a transition metal compound, and a component [C] of an organoaluminum compound.
