A rotary disc valve suitable for switching chromatographic columns comprises a housing 10, a seat member 23 having ports 23A-D therethrough and a fluoro-carbon valve member 22 having two arcuate recesses 22A, 22B. The valve member is fixed by clips 9 to a tubular member 13 supported at its ends in bearings 11, 12, and the valve member is urged against the seat by a spring 14 acting through ball 16, washer 18 and rubber pad 20. The member 13 has four pins 27A-27D around its central periphery and these cooperate with a flexible hook 28, which is reciprocable with a solenoid armature 29, to cause the member 13, the rubber pad 20 and the valve member to rotate in steps to connect the seat ports in pairs. As shown, a second valve member 21 is provided with corresponding ball 15, washer 17 and rubber pad 19. The solenoid housing may be enclosed in an explosion-proof casing.</p> |
