[Also m Division G2] A device for supporting the head during clinical examination or treatment thereof comprises carrier means on which is mounted a pair of laterally spaced pads for engagement with the underedges of the cheek bones to support the head without imposing restraint on the lower jaw. The cheek pads may be resilient and the faces of the pads may be flat, convex or concave. As shown optical apparatus comprises cheek pads G2 mounted on members G1 by means of universal joints, the members G1 being mounted for vertical and angular adjustment on the rods G. The apparatus also comprises forehead rest G5, hand grips G6, slit lamp apparatus A for illuminating the eye and a microscope B (or photographic camera). The illuminating means A and microscope B are independently rotatable about mounting D on the plate E which is movably mounted on base plate F to allow each eye to be examined.
