The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for estimating an external parameter of a camera which is installed in a vehicle and, more specifically, to a camera external parameter estimating apparatus including: an image input unit which receives an image which photographs first and second triangle patterns in a camera which is installed in a vehicle; and an external parameter estimating unit which estimates a first location coordinate value which corresponds to the tilt angle and roll angle of the camera and a height from the ground where the vehicle is located using the side lengths of the photographed first and second triangle patterns. By the present invention, the external parameter of a camera which is installed in a vehicle can be estimated accurately. The present invention is able to estimate the external parameter of a camera in a relatively convenient way because adjustment for placing a vehicle and correction pattern for being accurately located at a predetermined position is not necessary using the triangle patterns as the correction pattern. |
