A marine emergency warning system comprises a trigger unit (206, Fig 1), a receiver part 300, a transmission part 310, an interface unit 314 and a recording unit 312. The trigger unit has a triggered state in which a signal is provided to the receiver part, the transmission part emits a warning signal when the trigger unit is in the triggered state. The warning signal includes information, the content of which is provided by the warning system, and the recording unit records the information. The information stored or recorded in the recording unit may include one or more or all of the date, the time, the trigger unit position, the trigger unit identity, the vessel position, the vessel identity, the speed through the water for the vessel, the speed over the ground for the vessel and the heading of the vessel. The apparatus and method helps with the assistance of the person or vessel and allows accurate investigation of the cause of the emergency. |
