A cleaner head for a vacuum cleaner comprises a hinged soleplate assembly 7 which can be opened and closes to allow access to the inside of the cleaning head 5. The soleplate assembly 7 is held in a closed position by a release catch 19a, 19b on the cleaner head with the catch 19a, 19b being arranged to pivot between a locking position and a release position. The catch 19a, 19b includes a first cam (25, fig 9a) which is arranged to force open the hinged soleplate assembly 7 as the catch 19a, 19b is pivoted from the locking position to the release position. A second cam (27, fig 9a) may be present to engage the soleplate assembly 7 or the housing 5 to pull together the housing 5 and the soleplate assembly 7 as the catch 19a, 19b is rotated from the release position back to the lock position. |
