A machine slide comprises a slider 4 having a part slidably arranged between opposed wall portions 2, 3 of a slideway 1, a clamping member 7 between one of the wall portions 2 and the part 5, a sealing ring 8 between the member 7 and the wall 2 and a passage 10 in either the slideway or the clamping member whereby gas or liquid under pressure can be applied to the space within the ring 8 to clamp the slide against the slideway. The ring 8 may be partly received in a suitable groove in the member 7 and may be adhesively fastened to the member 7; the latter is held stationary e.g. by two pins projecting from the wall 2. |
