METHOD OF OPERATING A WIRE ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING APPARATUS

A wire electric discharge, machine in which a wire electrode (5) and workpiece (1) are relatively moved from each other by a drive means (10) and energy for machining is supplied between the wire electrode (5) and workpiece (1) by a machining electric power supply means (11) so that the workpiece (1) is machined by electric discharge, the wire electric discharge machine includes: a profile directing means (15) for directing a profile of a portion in the neighborhood of an approach point (0), which connects an approach path portion (4) with a machining profile portion (2) of the relative movement path of the wire electrode (5) and workpiece (1) on a machined face of the workpiece (1), so that it can be a desirable profile such as a protruding profile' or recess profile according to the use of the workpiece; and an adjusting means (16) for adjusting a profile of the portion in the neighborhood of the approach pvint(O) according to the direction value directed by the profile directing means (15). A profile of a portion in the neighborhood of the approach point (O) on the machined face of the workpiece (1) can be adjusted to a desired profile according to the use of the workpiece (1).
