[Class 108 (i)] In a chassis-less vehicle having longitudinal side frame members secured at each side to the base of the body to provide girder members serving for the attachment of road wheels and suspension systems therefor and for the mounting of the power unit, each girder member is of hollow section and is formed with an opening or openings therein facing downwardly to provide ventilation of, and drainage from, the hollow section girders. The chassis frame side member 16, Fig. 4, and the bottom margin 11 of the body sides form a hollow section girder member spaced apart at the flanges 12, 14 by distance pieces 17 with or without a splash guard 20. In Fig. 6 the gaps are formed by depressions in the flange 26 which are protected by a removable splash guard 29 attached to the girder by spacers 30, the outer edge 31 being turned over to form a finishing strip or bumper which may be plated or sheathed with rubber. The lower edges of the girder may be spaced apart by strips 38, Fig. 11, and the splash guard may be grooved to form a drain channel 47. Specification 418,257 is referred to. |
