A high voltage electrical coupler comprises a contact element 3 and a housing 1. The contact element is secured to an end of an elongate electrical conductor 7, and is engageable with a corresponding contact element of a corresponding coupler to make an electrical connection. The housing is secured to the elongate conductor to house the contact element secured thereto, and can be engaged with the housing of the corresponding coupler to form an airtight volume around the engaged contact elements for insulating the electrical connection with pressurised gas. Lid 8 covers the end of the cable when the connector is disconnected but is opened to allow connection of the coupler. The contact may be hermaphroditic. The connector can be used on railway rolling stock. |
