The invention relates to the technology of radioactive waste reprocessing. According to the invention a method for disposal of radioactive waste in silica glass consists in that tetraethoxysilane diluted with ethanol is added to a nitrate solution of metallic element being a component of radioactive waste while thorough mixing, and then an organic acid is added, preferably ascorbic acid. Then the mixture is mixed at room temperature for 2-5 hours, preferably for 4 hours, this is the initial stage of hydrolysis, and obtained hydroxy-nitrate-ascorbic sol, with metallic element being a component of radioactive waste contained in it, is subjected to a second stage of hydrolysis and polymerization at a temperature of 70 °C, and then is evaporated to dry residue under pressure of 0.1 MPa. Heat treatment is carried out for 4 hours at a temperature of 1200 °C with heating rate of 2 °C/min. The resulting product is a silica glass with metallic element being a radioactive waste component strongly built-in in the glass structure. In the method the direct synthesis is used providing strong incorporation of metal elements into the glass structure with use using ions of cobalt, strontium, cesium and neodymium as model elements of highly active and radioactive waste. |
