摘要 #CMT# #/CMT# The method involves measuring normal tensile stress (S1), and bending stress in a cable (S2) in a synchronized manner so as to obtain a compound stress in the cable, where the normal tensile stress in the cable is measured by a strain gauge placed on the cable. The number of stress cycles is counted (S3) from the measured compound stress depending on amplitude of the compound stress. A fatigue capital of the cable is assessed (S4) by comparing the number of stress cycles with a pre-set Wohler curve for the cable. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a device for determining a fatigue capital of a cable supporting a civil engineering structure. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Method for determining fatigue capital of a cable supporting a civil engineering structure e.g. bridge or cable suspension bridge. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The method allows actual loading experienced by the cable to be known, thus enabling estimation of the fatigue capital of the cable by extrapolation of past and future loading, and hence estimating remaining life of the cable.
