The present invention relates to a process for treatment of steel by heat treatment in a heat treatment furnace (2) and pickling in a steel pickle (3), where the waste process air from the steel pickle (3) is heated to the catalyst operating temperature and is fed to a catalyst (5) for reducing the nitrogen oxide concentration, where the waste process air passed through the catalyst (5) is fed as combustion air to at least one heating burner (20) of the heat treatment furnace (2). The invention further relates to a steel treatment plant (1) having a heat treatment furnace (2) for the heat treatment of steel, a steel pickle (3) for pickling the steel and a catalyst (5) for reducing the nitrogen oxide concentration of the waste process air coming from the steel pickle (3), where a heating device (6, 60) for heating the waste process air before the catalyst (5) is provided in order to heat the waste process air to the catalyst operating temperature, where a feed device (32) for feeding the waste process air passed through the catalyst (5) to at least one heating burner (20) of the heat treatment furnace (2) is provided. |
