The present invention relates to an electronic device and a control method thereof. The electronic device includes: a connection unit which is connected to an external device and includes two or more pins for communicating signals with the external device; a signal processing unit which generates a test signal for testing the connection unit and outputs the test signal to the first pin among the pins; and a control unit which determines whether the connection unit is malfunctioning depending on the characteristics of the test signal received through the second pin, among the pins, which is short-circuited with the first pin by a short circuit support unit. By doing so, the electronic device and the control method thereof are able to enhance productivity by reducing time for testing the connection unit of the electronic device.
