The engine has a main circuit (2) comprising a water jacket (4) for the internal combustion engine, and a radiator (6). An auxiliary circuit (3) is arranged with an insulated storage unit (15) and a pumping unit (16) for transferring part of a cooling liquid i.e. water-glycol mixture, of the main circuit towards the insulated storage unit in a reversible manner. The main circuit includes a hydraulic insulation unit for the radiator for isolating the radiator from the main circuit during phases of transfer of the cooling liquid between the main circuit and the storage unit. An independent claim is also included for a method of management of calories contained in a cooling liquid of an internal combustion engine.
