The balloon has a lighting device (16) arranged inside an external envelope (12), and an internal envelope (14) placed inside the external envelope. The internal envelope is deformable to ensure, under the effect of pressure exerted by the internal envelope on the lighting device and the external envelope, the holding of the lighting device in position by wedging between the envelopes and the shaping of the external envelope. The lighting device includes plasma tubes (22) placed on a side of the internal envelope, and base plates (24) for supporting the plasma tubes. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling an illuminating balloon.
