A wear travel sensor (1) for sensing wear travel of a brake lining (18, 18'), in particular of a friction brake, has a protective sheath (10) with a friction side (11) and a connection side (12); and a pick-up (2) with at least one wear volume element (3). The wear volume element (3) is designed such that it can guide light, wherein a light-guiding path of the volume of the wear volume element (3) is dependent on the wear travel of the brake lining (18, 18'). A method for determining wear travel with the wear travel sensor (1) determines a phase shift between an optical exciter signal which is fed into the wear volume element (3) and a response signal as wear travel. |
