PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector for projecting two bright and dark patterns on a screen during projection, obtaining two screen reflection light beams of ambient light and projection light from the patterns and adjusting luminance.SOLUTION: A projector 10 includes: an illuminance sensor; a light source device; a display element; a light source control section for controlling the light source device; a display element control section for controlling the display element; measurement timing setting means for setting first measurement timing in one first period of a light emission switching period of individual colors in one frame and setting second measurement timing in one second period of the light emission switching period of the individual colors in the one frame; and a control section for controlling luminance of a projected image on the basis of measurement values by the illuminance sensor at the first measurement timing and the second measurement timing.
