<p>The method involves utilizing a high pressure pump for supplying fuel. A rail/accumulator is connected with a fuel injector. Injection quantities are calculated at a time point based on an operating parameter of an internal combustion engine. The calculation of the injection quantities and a value of operating parameter are predicted at injection time point based on time offset of setpoint value profile and a time reference value profile. Rail pressure operational parameters are included in the high pressure pump. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for controlling a fuel injection system of a combustion engine (2) a combustion engine.</p>
