Manufacturing a component, preferably a vehicle component (1) for the chassis of a motor vehicle, comprises: forming a blank made of the air-hardening steel; hardening and/or quenching the formed blank; determining at least one deformation region (11) for the component; and annealing or tempering the deformation region. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle component for a chassis of a motor vehicle, which is prepared by forming a blank made of an air- hardening, cured and/or tempered steel. The vehicle component is annealed or tempered in at least one deformation region.
