Linalyl acetate is prepared by the transesterification of myrcene hydrochloride with sodium acetate in a tertiary alcohol thus avoiding the formation of an acid medium. Preferred alcohols are tert-butanol and diethylmethyl carbinol. Advantageously alkaline earth carbonates, e.g. CaCO 3 and MgCO 3 , are added and as catalysts cuprous or cupric salts. |
